Abstract : Passi d’Argento (PdA – Silver Steps) is a monitoring system that provides information on health, habits and lifestyle of Italian over 65 population. It integrates the results of an existing monitoring system on 18-69 years-old population which started in 2007. For the first time, PdA “measures” the contribution given to society by the elderly people through their support in family and community context. Between March 2012 and January 2013, 24,000 interviews were carried out in 18 Italian Regions. They provided information and important elements for the prevention activities’ assessment, useful for social and health system managers and workers, but also for elderly themselves and their families. The interviews, on phone or face-to-face, are carried out through a standardized questionnaire by trained operators. The cross-section is operated on the registry of the people assisted by the health services through simple stratified or cluster random sampling.
