The SIforAGE project, within the Work Package 5, has to organize “mutual learning activities with policymakers”. After the meeting in Donostia, the 6th Siforage General Assembly, the Portuguese partner – Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, was responsible for the organization of the Mutual Learning venue in Portugal.
Regarding the feedback from Torino, the outcome from the MLS held in Turim, and the WP5 brainstorm held in Donostia, SCML assumed the following planning:
I. Following the discussed idea on coming up with a more proficient title for the session, we chose: SIforAGE Knowledge Exchange.
II. On the sent invitation we dedicated a small left column with a brief description about the MLP in order to introduce the participants to the core of the session.
III. Due to the already spoken differences on being able to reach policymakers with the same success in different countries, and according to the agreement of the entire partnership a “policymaker” is a person with power to influence or determine policies and practices at an international, national, regional, or local level, SCML hosted:
a) Policymakers from two different municipalities: Municipality of Lisbon and Municipality of Sobral;
b) Social Care and Health Institutions;
c) Companies from the private sector.
IV. SCML did not focus the session only in the platform. We decided to integrate the MLP with to other two activities. There was a small presentation about SIforAGE project and accomplished tasks so far, followed by a discussion panel about “ageing on the cities political agenda”. The main objective was to involve and include actively all the participants in the same theme in order to discuss the impact of political and institutional decisions (or lack of it) in the senior population. The MLP was presented after the panel to the same audience. Note: One of the speakers on the panel discussion was the Lisbon Councilor for Social Affairs.
V. The MLS lasted one entire morning. 9h30 – 13h00 VI. 52 invitations – 40 confirmation – 31 attendances.
Main conclusions:
Focusing the MLS merely on the platform it is clearly not enough. It is a very good idea to involve other activities such has a small debate or discussion;
Some of the participants may not know SIforAGE project. One should dedicate some time to frame the WP5 created platform to policymakers: Why? How?
Try to demonstrate a user access and navigation through the platform.
Emphasize the material and content issue. Transmit that the MLP it’s a strong online tool, especially for those who seek info about ageing, and look to change some opinions about the theme.
